“Red Fox,” Near Grand Marais, Minnesota, USA, by Benjamin Olson, Burnsville, Minnesota, USA. This image was “Highly Honored” in the Wildlife category.
Says Olson: “While on a drive toward Grand Marais, I noticed a red fox hunting. I took a few shots from my car before decided to lie down in the ditch along the road. The fox unexpectedly turned and approached me, coming within five feet. Far from the nearest civilization, I concluded I may have been the first human this fox encountered. I spent an hour photographing the beautiful animal. At one point, the fox began grooming. It paused and gave a big yawn as I caught this image.”
