'Transportation Walk'

This walkway runs past the US Department of Transportation headquarters, with outdoor displays of various types of transport along the way. I got told by a guard that I was on federal property and therefore was not allowed to take any pictures. My response to him, pointing to a lot of ashtrays out there, was: How can it be OK for people to smoke here but not take pictures?? At least he didn’t make me delete them.

This is all for the time being for this gallery, but I’m sure we’ll be back to this neighborhood soon, even if just to have dinner at a new Mexican restaurant we found. Thanks so much for the great comments and votes! I was happy to have discovered this exciting new part of Washington and share it with everybody.

I guess guards have to justify there authority some times :( Love this shot - looks so cool and laid back - a lovely place to wander down ! V

Such a lovely shady walkway to be deserted... everyone's probably avoiding that over-zealous guard (or the smokers!)

Very photogenic this walkway, and I praise you for your reaction with the guard. Keep up the good work, Helen ;-)

A wonderful walkway, sad to see they don't like photographs on the path.

Very nice image, Helen! We have some pretty stupid laws!

But well worth you taking it anyway. Looks a very restful spot.

I found that the local art gallery had given up on its prohibition against taking photos.. Too many cameras, I agree with no flash, but it's pointless trying to stop people with cell phones anyway.

Terrorism paranoia ... eh, the Statue of Liberty and the US Capitol are also Federal properties! I guess you can't shoot pics in National Parks either (Federal lands)! Eh ... you never know!!!

It is incomprehensible! In Saudi Arabia it is forbidden to take pictures of people without their consent; and at home you can not make those empty benches ???
Great photography, Helen! V

looks a pleasant walk - apart from over-officious guard
