From the “Today’s Life and War” series by Gohar Dashti of Iran: “In the third image of celebration, the man and woman sit behind a wall of sandbags, as if on a puppet stage, with festive colored garlands hung around them; the one in front is strung from the remnants of a missile shell. The shiny decorations contrast with the muted colors of the scenes. Between the couple, balanced precariously atop a sandbag, is a yellow cake with a large sparkler on top – perhaps a reference to ‘yellowcake,’ a chemical used in nuclear reactors.”
