A dark day

This was the March 5 front page of the Turkish newspaper I work for, the day after our media group was seized by the government. We were only able to produce and print half the paper, and I understand distribution of this edition was halted by the authorities.

An unfortunate sign of the times. I see foreshadowing in some of the political rhetoric from this current presidential campaign.

A black day indeed but no free press where you are surely, Helen. There is so much sadness....

What a shame! I'm out of words and utterly in grief about what has been going on where I live.

Things are getting darker in so many ways, and freedom of the press is now a precarious ideal.

Such a sad development. What are governments so afraid of? Scared of anything that makes people question their legitimacy. V

So much turmoil and unrest. Seems to indicate a concerted effort to limit information the government deems as challenging it's power. A possible sign that stability is eroding.

Widely reported here and lamented by all those who value free press.

Black day for Press !

Indeed, todays edition is pro Erdogan😔.
globalgadabout06-Mar-2016 14:45
this is a bold cover to publish...today's edition is quite different with the cover fawning to Erdogan and the 3rd bridge...have you considered switching to Yarina Bakis?
Patrick Goossens06-Mar-2016 14:31
Well I can only hope that Turkey will not be allowed to join the EU communion
Jeff Real06-Mar-2016 14:13
A shocking development. A hope future days bright light into the darkness.

A dark day indeed for the Turkish free press.

A dark day in Turkish history, but we've seen it coming.
Milan Vogrin06-Mar-2016 09:34
A sad day.
Chris Morton06-Mar-2016 08:59
perhaps news dissemination is shifting with the media of the day? Our 'Independent' newspaper is about to close and the Murdoch slanters are thriving. I suspect our main work should be to fight against government (all govs) from snooping or censoring the web
Charlene Ambrose06-Mar-2016 08:35
What a sad day indeed! And this from a country that supposedly wants to be part of the EU.
Ika Zinka Eferl06-Mar-2016 08:16

La liberté de la presse est très importante, surtout en ces moments troubles.
