Ben Youssef Medersa, prayer hall

The Ben Youssef Medersa (Koranic school) was built in the mid-14th century and was one of the largest and finest in the Mahgreb. It now serves as a tourist attraction. I had wanted to visit it because of my tour guide (Eyewitness Travel “Morocco”), which features a gorgeous door on the cover said to have been photographed there, but it simply doesn’t exist at the medersa. I even wrote to the publisher about it, who contacted the photographer at Getty Images, but I don’t know what the outcome was.

Fourth and last picture of the medersa, taken inside the prayer hall. My tour guide says the building is essentially the same as when it was designed 700 years ago, with no later alterations.
