Ruins, Hassan Mosque, and minaret

A last view of Rabat, taken by Tim, of the ruins of the Hassan Mosque and its minaret – which looks like an office building it’s so large. The gigantic (600 feet by 456 feet) and unfinished Hassan Mosque, built in 1196 by Yacoub el-Mansour, was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. The enormous minaret (52 feet wide and 144 feet high), the symbol of Rabat, survived and is being restored. That appears to be me once again in the way of the camera!

I think this will end my sub-gallery of Rabat. I certainly didn’t expect much there, but in fact it was a pleasant city with lots to see. Thanks for all the great comments, and now on to Chefchaouen, the blue city of Morocco.
