Casablanca, Hassan II Mosque

The Hassan II Mosque is the only thing I was interested in seeing in Casablanca, so our driver made sure we got here from Essaouira in time for the last tour today.

Completed in 1993 with contributions from the Moroccan people and the skill of 35,000 craftsmen, this is the second largest religious building in the world, after the mosque in Mecca. The complex covers 9 hectares (968,774 square feet), two-thirds of it built over the sea, and can accommodate 25,000 worshippers. It was definitely a spectacular mosque.
