Mud storm (1)

This is a series of images showing this bizarre phenomenon we have here of muddy rain. There is so much sand in the air in Riyadh (I read somewhere that 4,000 tons of sand descend on the city every month) that if there is a sandstorm in progress when it rains, the rain hits the ground as mud. I couldn’t believe it until I actually saw it. Everything was a mess after the rain; Tim had to wash off the windshield of the car the next day because it was so caked with mud, he couldn’t even see out of it.

This was taken from our front door after the storm. Below is what it really looks like:

I've never heard of that phenomenon, neither the sheer amount of sand in the air, or the muddy rain, but your photos graphically show what it is like. V
