This had to be one of the loveliest buildings in Makó, the work of Makovecz notwithstanding. It was also one of the nicest synagogues I've seen in Hungary. I don't know if it's still active, but judging from the excellent restoration and lack of any signs saying "culture center" or "theater," which is the case with many synagogues in the Hungarian countryside, I would say it is.
