Three images. Top, a male and two female Red-breasted Mergansers. The male is another first for me. I came upon these on a whim. On my way home for lunch, I checked my watch and decided there was time to make a little detour to check for migrants at a local park. I got out of my vehicle, camera ready, and just over a little knoll, there they were swimming in a little moat off the main pond. I got off about 12 shots before they swam away, then dove, then flew off. The three were seen for a few days, then the male made his choice and disappeared with the one female. The other female remains at the park waiting for a beau.
