Ruby-throated hummingbird at royal catchfly

Bloomington, MN

This is one of the hummingbird's favorite flowers in my yard. For this shot I set up with a 25mm extension tube on my 500mm lens (at f/4) to allow closer focus distance and also a shallow depth of field, so that the flowers in the background (wild bergamot) would be blurred more. The challenge with using a long lens and extension tube is the very narrow field of view and extremely shallow DOF. I'm probably about 10 feet away, and this is basically a full frame shot, except for a little cropped off the left side..
