Arthurs Seat and Whinny Hill

This simulated panorama attempts to show what a cross section of the volcano could have looked like at its maximum extent. Much higher than its current 251 metres, the Lion’s Haunch vent dwarfs the Lion’s Head. This is based on the illustration in “Discovering Edinburgh’s Volcano”, a publication produced by the Edinburgh Geological Society. See http://www.edinburghgeolsoc.org/
