Whale watching at Pleasant Bay

Cabot Trail, Cape Breton - Nova Scotia

The late afternoon trip out of Pleasant Bay was quite a show. On many occasion Pilot whale would swim right up alongside our boat. I understand Pilot whales are very sociable mammals and they certainly were in a good mood this afternoon. While some of the whales were playing on their backs we saw others breach...coming straight up out of the water. What a treat. The comments heard onboard were "wow" and "awesome". For many this was their first ever experience seeing whales outside of captivity or just on a TV nature show. On a subsequent trip out we saw many groups of dolphins also swimming very close to the boat. Awesome.
