The Pu'u O'o, 2.5 years after the 1990 eruption, still belching dust, gases and
smoke. This "small hill" was only 2400' feet high back than, but the eruption was
able to obliterate a town and to cover not less than 8 miles (17 km) of the highway.
This entire adventure was a lesson in thinking in "large dimensions,"
which are obvious to geologists and so astonishing to layman.
