15/02/05 - For Stu

Here, it's a friendly tribute to Stewart Lloyd-Jones.
The first, but everyone is a likely target.
I learn about his B&W feeling and try to make pic in this way.
I don't know if it is Spoilt or successful, Stu tell us what he think about.
yesterday, friends on PBASE say me that some people don't make difference between great and standard pics in theirs coments
and those comments become a habit, like tell Ť hello ť to the neigbour each morning.
I don't know if it's entirely wrong or entirely true, Probably in the mean.
I admit I do it sometimes, but I hope take another way sometime too
So, Thanks Stu for your work and the pleasure I have to see it every day

I think you might be onto something with that text.. I admit, I´ve given social comments sometimes, but never for the images that haven´t deserved it imo! I usually only have time to give comments during the weekends and I then only choose those images I find interesting. I wish I had more time in my hands.. Take care!

I think this is a fantastic tribute and I agree a lot of us get 'lazy' something with commenting on photos, which is a shame, really. Because I think we all want to get better at what we do...

I like the contrasts and textures here, but I can't figure out what it is ;-)

Gilles, I think you were very successful. The tones and textures are very nice.

RE: Comments
Sometimes my words have a hard time flowing so my comments are brief and generic (Excellent, Nice work, I love it!) I leave comments on photos I admire, and want to let the photographer know.
Sometimes I leave comments for those who I sense need a bit of encouragement; as I have certainly received encouragement from those who have left comments for me.
Sometimes I just want to communicate with people so leave comments for their photos.
I try to make sure my comments are sincere.

Wow, Gilles! What can I say! Thank you very much... I am both flattered and flabbergasted that you would choose to dedicate an image to me. I'm speechless. Thank you very much! BTW: I think it is a camera bag, and that the round thing with the string attached is a lens cap. Thanks again, Gilles. I'll return the compliment when I'm a better photographer! :D

wait. i have an addendum. Some take the time and don't leave comments for the purpose of being social. Liking people and liking their work are seperate things. If people leave comments to me because they like me.. it doesn't help me get any better - and that's why I'm here.

It's nice to have some people say hello and other comments you really have to earn. For a while I was a bit baffled how some fairly ordinary (IMHO) pics have loads of comments and some great ones have very few. Some pictures seem so great I daren't comment.

Le plus important est ce que le spectateur ressent (à mon avis).
Une photo simple et "standard" peut parfois évoquer beaucoup et donc toucher.
Celle-ci m'a interpelée car je n'arrivait pas à trouver ce que c'était (sauf le capuchon du G3 ;) ).
Finalement, elle semble pouvoir avoir sa place dans la CSC, n'est-il pas ?

It certainly has the right feel to it - but is missing Stu's friendly Blutak figures!
You're probably right about the comments, but I personally appreciate the regular contact and encouragement - which feels really warm and genuine. I get probably more out of seeing other people's approaches and ideas than the comments - there are some tremendously talented pbasers out there. You can always tell when you've hit the spot with a shot by the comment to hit ratio!!
