Tippu Tip was a nineteenth century slaver born in in 1832. He did not sit for this portrait painted in 1942. The lives of Henry Morton Stanley and David Livingstone make for interesting reading and Tippu Tip shows up in their adventures frequently.

I never heard about him and didn't think that a slvve trader would enslave his own people.
