Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo

Canberra ACT Australia

These long-lived birds awaken many Australians with their gentle, soothing melodious calls,
which are so beautiful they reduce some listeners to tears of emotion.

No, I'm kidding. The call of the Sulphur-crested cockatoo is one of the most abrasive soundsof the bush. Nonetheless the birds
themselves are highly intelligent, playful creatures full of character. They often come into conflict with Australian farmers over
possession of various crops and are regarded by some people as a serious pest. These birds, like most parrot species in
Australia, depend on hollow trees for nesting.
