Amongst the Brigalow belt of southern inland Queensland live a variety of small, easily overlooked creatures who have very specific
habitat requirements. The Golden-tailed gecko (Strophurus taenicauda) is one of these, living primarily under the bark of small
shrubs and emerging at night to feed on insects. These spectacular geckos have a limited distribution and are under threat from land
clearing and loss of the shrub layer through grazing of cattle, coal seam gas extraction, changing fire regimes and firewood
collection. (As if predation from introduced foxes and cats wasn't enough!)
