I swear, I get into more goofiness when left to my own devices. Tonights project involved setting up some sort of quick guide for strobe light intensity to distance. The old school way of doing it was to tie a string to your light and make knots at preset intervals to mark off approximate apertures. So the first knot is about 24" away and is about f/8, the second is 48" away and is about f/5.6, and so on. So if it works, why change it? I got out a length of medium rope and marked it off at 24" intervals. This is all with the Sunpak 383 set to 1/4 power inside the Westcott 28" Apollo softbox.
So testing, of course, led to me just being plain goofy in front of the lens, as Ian was involved in a Power Ranger DVD, and asked to hold all his calls until further notice. There was little chance I was getting him down here for any decent length of time without every shot having that "was that the last shot dad?" look on his face.
So, somehow I decide that I want to do an uber close-up of my eyeball. Strange, but why not. You can see the softbox in the catchlight and my hand activating the shutter. If you notice the three small lights at the bottom edge of my pupil, that is one of those tiny led tap lights. I've been using it to help close the pupils of the eye in close up headshots. Otherwise I would have looked like one of those freaky japanaimated cartoons where all the characters have those freaky sized eyes. Anyways, I left them in to show you what goes on it my head at 9pm when you're left alone with a bunch of camera equipment.
So there's my eye, at two knots.
