The "Rosa acicularis, also known as the prickly wild rose, the prickly rose, the bristly rose and the Arctic rose, is a species of wild rose with a Holarctic distribution in northern regions of Asia, Europe, and North America." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_acicularis
My grandfather homesteaded on a large farm in Clyde, Alberta, where my father and six siblings grew up. I was able to visit there only once, and met uncles and cousins who lived there as well. My father and mother moved to Olympia Washington shortly before I was born. I didn't know the 'prickly wild rose' was the provincial flower of Alberta until I saw it online.
