Select Window > Documents > New Window
Then you can resize one view for overall preview while working in the other window zoomed to very high magnification.
This really works great when retouching on an individual pixel level magnification where the effect is hard to visualize.
Masks and selections only show in the active work window, but the effect appears in the new window as you go.
Either window can be closed while the remaining window retains all the history information.
