A member of Rutaceae, a New Zealand native, and a relative of Choysia ternata, which it resembles, although M. ternata is a considerably larger, more upright and free-growing shrub than C. ternata. There are several forms, including ones with much smaller leaves from South Island. This typical North Island large leafed form is probably not terribly hardy in the UK.
