4/19/08 - Selective Color

A neighbor's red dogwood.
Was playing around with conversion to monochrome. After the conversion, decided to try some selective coloring. Dropped the monochrome on a layer above the original color and then erased the monochrome blossom. Voila.
Took this using an 18-200 with a Canon 500D closeup lens attached. It's a nice combination. The good news is that composition is easy with the zoom. The bad news is that sometimes (like here) I prefer a shallower depth of field to throw the background more out of focus than the f/5 (wide open at this distance on the 18-200) allows. Unfortunately the 105 (f/2.8) macro was at home (all of five doors down the street - who's lazy?).

Excellent treatment - the color really pops out with this presentation. I wonder how it would look if you mostly, but not completely, desaturated the monochrome layer?
