12/30/05 - A Work in Progress, v1.2

I think I'll stop here after the 3rd attempt. Click Next twice to see the previous two tries.
The 1st try (2 next clicks) had a two tone background reflected in each of the hemispheres; I wanted solid.
The 2nd try (1 next click) had a solid background but too many spectral reflections in the hemispheres.
As Goldilocks said, the 3rd one was just right.
Those are drops of water on a glass surface. The perfect shape is thanks to Rain-x, an automotive windshield product. The grid is from a food strainer taped to the bottom of the glass. The red color is a sheet of poster paper beneath the whole mess. A picture of the setup is here - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/54169860 Someone obviously has way too much time on his hands.
A variation - http://www.pbase.com/image/54159533 & the one that started it all - http://www.knepley.net/

You nailed it, Ed! Awesome. I saw the first version earlier today, and I'm glad you kept at it. It's hard to believe this is a photograph. I do like the second version as well.
