Highest falls east of the Mississippi - drops 1200 feet over about 1/2 mile. 23 folks killed trying to climb the slippery rocks over the years. Absolutely beautiful setting in the George Washington National Forest about 6 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway near mile post 27. This falls further confirms my theory that there are no good falls photos to be had - they ALL have large trees stuck on the falls somewhere. This shot is just the upper portion of the lower falls - the lower part has the rest of that 50 foot long pine tree sitting across it.
