3/31/05 - Glechoma hederacea

These little flowers are about 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) high. The common name of the plant is ground ivy. They would almost go unnoticed if you were walking since they grow close to the ground and the flowers are so small. Up close, they are quite pretty - almost orchid like with a hairy little cap. I'm told that the species can vary from completely smooth to hairy - so here you have the hairy version.

Excellent macro. They do look like hairy orchids.

Like the diagonal Ed, and they sure look teeny tiny itsy bitsy... sorry, wrong verse...

We have these little flowers also and I don't know they're name either. I always think they're such a lovely shade of purple.
