3/6/05 - Orchid Macro

Shot from the top of the blossom (about 2-3 inches tall) looking down on the leaves at the base of the plant. Wanted to see how much I could keep in focus with the 105 (1:1) Nikkor-Micro lens. Stopped down as far as the lens would go (f/51 - didn't know it would go that far). Took four shots - each focused at a different distance down the blossom (as expected the focal point that was about 1/3-1/2 of the way down the face of the blossom kept the greatest amount overall in focus. Doing this indoors is like shooting fish in a barrel; the 1 sec shutter speed wouldn't have been so good outdoors with even a hint of a breeze.

Nikon D70
1s f/51.0 at 105.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Interesting experiment - resulting in a very unusual take on a common subject.
