This shows the limit of the Nikkor 105mm (1:1) micro lens when coupled with the Tamron Pro 1.4x teleconverter - for what I think is 40% larger than life size. The penny is about 3/4" (2 cm) in diameter. This shot is not cropped - so this is as big as things get with this lens setup. I can't wait for the spring wildflowers (but first we have 6-9" of snow tomorrow before any thoughts of spring).
I seem to recall that the D70 CCD is 24 mm along the long side or a hair under 1 inch (2.54 cm per inch). So here we have less than 3/4" of coin filling a ccd that's nearly 1" wide. Definitely larger than lifesize (where lifesize is defined as something that is the size of the media filling the frame exactly).
