Month #28- Retrospective of Daily Photos posted from 5/04 to 12/09 (most viewers for the month)

Made in the dead of night in the rain. I keep threatening to drag my wife there with a red umbrella - one day... This image has some history behind it (the Manassas, VA train station, but no pun intended). At the time I made this, I was exposed to night photography for the first time (club had night photo as a monthly theme - one of the few good things to come from competitions is forcing you to try something new). I was in the midst of a battle with the competition committee over their "anything goes" rule and entered this. It's a double exposure (I have over 100 moon-only images; every phase & every location in the sky just for such occasions, which I created during the competition year in anticipation of this shot which I titled - "Moonrise Manassas". Sorry, Ansel.) I entered two images - both with the same moon in the exact same spot, but totally different scenes to make a point. The judge had a good laugh - as did I. This image got 2nd.

As a result of this image, where compositionally I really wanted that foreground switch box even closer, but had to back away in order to include the entire station (still too tight), I bought a 12-24 lens to use in place of my D70 18-70 kit lens used here at 18mm.

Ah, memories.

Well I just love this shot. I'm a train lover and this is a great location. Love the switchgear in the pic. I need to find some old stations to shoot:)
