04/05/09 - Spring at the Gazebo

Took a two mile photo-stroll in the mid-day sun. I normally avoid shooting in sunlight but need to revise my thinking after yesterday. Amazing colors & contrast compared to my normal moody low contrast landscapes.
For post-processing I used the Nik Color Efex Pro 3's (Capture NX2 plug-in) Polaroid Transfer filter to provide a funky border. This filter also provides a "smear" (blurring) which - like all Nik effects - can be controlled via U-Point. In this image I turned off the smear for the gazebo & boardwalk, and reduced its application to about 25% on the flowering cherry tree. This left my subject and my prominent foreground element to stand out against a softer foreground and background.
Compositionally I normally prefer left to right and, thus here, might flip this image horizontally - except that neighbors (the gazebo is a community landmark) would question it so for realism I left it alone.
