Surgery soon

On October 18th, Zoey is scheduled to be spayed and have the remainder of the bad eye removed. Her right eye will then be sewn shut. I feel a little bad about this and I'm not sure why. Its my hope that maybe through this photo diary, she will become a good will ambassador for other pets that may not seem to be perfect or the first ones to be considered for adoption. Thanks to everyone so far that has taken the time to read Zoey's story and for your kind words of encouragement.

Stay tuned.

Zoey will be one of the grateful ones. I fully believe that rescued cats know how lucky they are and pay it back in purrs and headbutts and loving looks.

My husband and I own a rescued kitty who is battling glaucoma in one eye. Right now he gets drops (and takes them so well, he almost looks forward to it) 3x a day to regulate the pressure in the eye, but one day he will most likely need the eye removed. They put in a prosthetic eye before sewing up the lids to avoid that sunken, pathetic look that you may have seen. Ask about it if the surgery hasn't happened yet.

Most of all, bless you and the fine people around you for caring so much.

Doria

I pray for Zoey's safe and successful surgery. The little angel deserves the best possible outcome, God knows, and I'm sure He will be there with His innocent baby kitten.
Bless you, too, for caring for her so wonderfully. May God be with you.

What beautiful photos!!! Zoey's story is a heart-warming one, for sure. Put a smile on my face. ^.^ I, too, know the trials and tribulations that come with rescuing a street kitty, and I also know the devotion and adoration they show you for the rest of their lives. Zoey knows you saved her, and will show you her appreciation for ever. She's lovely, and God bless her through her upcoming procedures!
Maria 16-Oct-2007 16:00
our world will be much better if there will be more people like you. I wish you and your cat good luck.

There is so much that can be said here, but I think the most important thing is just to say "Thank You". Not only for having the kindness and compassion to stick with it and nurse this little kitty to health, but also for sharing such a fantastic story.
Guest 15-Oct-2007 18:28
Zoey is such a beautiful girl! You two are lucky to have found each other. My kitty Malika is going in for her spay the same day as Zoey - I will keep my girl and yours in my heart that day. May you and Zoey have a long and loving life together.

Viva la kitten! I'm glad you were able to take her in, dispite her physical problems and appearance. We had a cat once that lost his eye in a fight with a wild animal, and he never had a problem. He didn't get his eyelids sewn shut, either. So I'm sure your Zoey will have no problems whatsoever. Found cats are fighters! Good luck to you all!
Trip 15-Oct-2007 01:17
What a heroic effort you have made on behalf of this kitty. It is truly inspiring, and a good reminder of how powerful love is.

I wish Zoey and you all the best, and hope her surgery goes well.

Thank you for this.

This is absolutely an amazing act of love and care that you have shared with Zoey and all of us who discovered your gallery. I hope all goes well.

The way you have taken care of this kitty is amazing. You are truly an angel. I have adopted 2 kittens in the past years but I doubt I'd have the skills, will and knowledge to do what you did with Zoey. She looks so beautiful now, her fur glows! So cute! I bet she's so so so very happy.

Congratulations, you've done a wonderful job with her.
Kate 14-Oct-2007 22:37
I love your story about Zoey and I'm glad she is going to be in a good home. My dad is a vet and we have lots of cats and a few dogs who live in our barn because no one adopted them and he didn't want to put them down. We have helped rescue and adopt out lots of animals and I wish I could just give Zoey a ruffle behind her ears because she is so cute!
She is one of the lucky ones and I'm so glad you were the ones who found her.

Kate

First...thank you for rescuing this kitten. Beautiful. I personally have a few cat stories that end with my daughters and I crying, and our loving vet sending us sympathy cards...so..a happy ending...is always welcome.
Shady 14-Oct-2007 20:18
I know you are worried about them removing her eye, but don't be. I had a dog that had to have her eye removed and sewn shut for some of the same issues- and she was absolutely, perfectly fine with it. I don't think she even noticed, and she had such a cute expression (looked like she was winking all the time) that she didn't even look bad. Zoey will do great. You guys are real heroes for what you have done for this cat (I am the same way about animals) Thank you for what you have done- you're inspiring a lot of people out there.
Lynne Mulrooney 14-Oct-2007 20:15
Well done, you. I adopted a blind cat 13 years ago when no one else wanted him. It took some getting used to at first because Ely kept walking into things like the walls and the furniture and us, but when he'd decided we were trustworthy he rewarded us with all the love in the world and now we wouldn't be without him. He can be a grumpy old man at times but we still love him just as much as we ever did, if not more so. It cost us £30 to complete the adoption and I can honestly say it was the best £30 I've ever spent in my entire life. It's good to know that there are people who are willing to take on animals who aren't perfect, the ones who have defects or who are old and past their prime. Zoey is adorable and I'm sure she'll give you many years of love and affection that will repay you a thousand-fold for each and every kindness you've shown her.
Nomy 14-Oct-2007 20:01
I found this on Stumble. Amazing. You guys are my new heroes.
andrea 14-Oct-2007 19:46
Yay for both of you. It hurts to see an animal hurting, just as it does a child. Zoey will be just fine now -- thanks to you.
We also have adopted all of our animals - I don't believe that I need to go to a breeder or (heaven forbid) a pet shop to purchase a pet.

Thanks from me, my family and all of our 'rescues'!!

God Bless,
Andrea *(from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada)

Thank God for you because Zoey's waiting to be wanted is now a thing of the past.

I'm 42 and have had some experience with taking in strays. We had a kitten my mom found under her car at work and he was great. I've also tried to nurse baby birds back to health with no success.

I believe in karma and what you are doing is great. She'll never forget that you saved her and looks quite cute in that last picture.
Mairenn 13-Oct-2007 20:14
You are very special for saving little Zoey. You did a wonderful job on her diary and she, you, your husband and your network of friends are an inspiration.

Thank you for being such wonderful people. People that are capable of loving something that is in the eyes of most imperfect are the best kind of people. Thank you for making the world a better place. Zoey is one beautiful kitty!
Lynda 08-Oct-2007 22:33
Zoey is a very lucky little kitten to have found you guys... Please don't worry about the eye being sewn shut. I had a persian that had come to me (as a rescue) at 12mths with cat flu and Chlamydia at the age of 12 she had to have one of her eyes removed due to ulcerations from the illness as a kitten. She coped miracously well with the one eye and seemed to be just as accurate with one as she was with two, she never missed a trick, or a fly!!! Good Luck to you all and please do keep us posted.
Paulette 08-Oct-2007 18:18
