Scientific name: Aplonis panayensis
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Sturnidae
The Asian Glossy Starling is a species of starling in the Sturnidae family. It is found in Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.
Asian Glossy Starlings eat mainly soft fruits - papaya, banana, mangos - berries, and sometimes insects. They are particularly fond of figs. Like others in their family, Asian Glossy Starlings are highly gregarious. They feed and roost in flocks of about 20. The flocks are compact and move quickly. Before settling down, they often perform displays over their roosting tree; wheeling in impressive twists and forming symmetrical patterns.
