There is a neighbouring second church, with a single nave and smaller. Most of it has disappeared, this is the apse.
The apse had a double row of seats, named ‘synthronon’, where the monks sat during services. In its center there was a larger seat for the bishop or abbot. In front of it stood a large altar (that has disappeared since).
