Antakya 7785.jpg

This mosque is actually a former Byzantine church, transformed into a mosque in the 13th century. Viewer Ibrahim Turan provided me with the proper name and spelling. "Habib" meant "beloved" and "neccar" means "carpenter." Habib-i Neccar (we don't know his real name) was killed by pagans while he was trying to protect two messengers sent to Antioch by Prophet Jesus.

The mosque had a minaret added in the 17th century.

This is (right) the wall along one side of the mosque, and some small square next to it.
