It's a bronze statue, and my educated guess was: Apollo. Because of the snake, that would indicate his role as a healer or represent the "dragon" Python, that he slew. That slaying gave rise to the Pythian Oracle at Delphi.
However, I have since come to the conclusion that it must be Mars. As such he is depicted on other sites, so I change my opinion.
