The cenotaph of Atatürk in its place. I remember something about the earth of all provinces of the country being put in the casket-like construction, as usual this momument was loaded with symbolism.

There are soil samples in small urns from all provinces (originally 67, now 81), and from Cyprus, surrounding the casket, in the ground, in a room that is several floors below. When touring the newly opened museum underground, visitors pass by the entrance to the room which is locked.

Yes, this is a cenotaph, technically, yet the room holding the casket (the remains) is aligned to be directly underneath the enormous sarcophagus visible here. The casket itself faces Mecca.

The sarcophagus has been sculpted from a single monolithic slab of marble. The dominant color in the marble is that of dark clay, with veins that are white.

There is a natural pattern in the stone facing the observer, in the form of a large "V".
