This is a crop from a picture I took moments after the man who's running away tried to grab my camera. I was in one of the poor areas, talking to a man who was showing me the way. Suddenly I felt my camera hitting something, and took firmer hold of it. I immediately realized someone must have tried to grab it, but as I still was in its possession I was more worried that it might have been damaged. To test I took a picture, and by doing so "shot" my thief. However, he was too far by then, knew the area, and I let it go.

Many people warned me that the town is dangerous and over the years I have met several people who were robbed. In over 60 visits to Turkey this was only the second time I knew people tried to rob me (and I almost always am alone, not shunning visiting the poorest areas), and I never lost a thing. So: don't worry overly if you're there, but be on guard.
