Bursa Islamic Art Museum May 2014 7324.jpg

Four wedding dresses from the Bursa province. First half of the 20th century.
From left to right:
- a village-style costume with silk velvet ‘üçetek’ and ‘salta’, both adorned with gold thread embroidery;
- an urban dress in ‘bindallı entari’-style, adorned with gold thread embroidery on silk;
- a silk wedding dress in European 1930s style;
- a traditional costume in late Ottoman style; the long dress is named ‘bindallı entari’, and is adorned with silver thread embroidery on velvet.

‘Üçetek’ = a robe with three panels: one wide at the backside, and two smaller in the front.
‘Salta’ = jacket with long sleeves (sometimes also named ‘cepken’, ‘sarka’ or ‘güdük’).
‘Bindallı entari’ means: ‘robe with thousand branches’, because the decorative motifs on the robe consist mainly of branches with leaves and flowers.
