Ankara 08092012_3468.jpg

Base of a pillar. Ornated with two lions (probably) or sphinxes (possibly). In between them: a bull-man (?).
From Carchemish/Karkamış (on the Euphrates River and on the Turkish-Syrian border, c. 25 km south of Birecik). Neo-Hittite sculpture, mixed style: traditional (lions) and Aramean (bull-man). 9th – 8th century BC.
