A chimaera (a winged leonine sphinx monster) with human as well as lion head.
The creature’s bird-headed tail reminds the Chimaera of the Greek mythology.
Basalt relief from the ‘Heralds Wall’ in Carchemish/Karkamış (on the Euphrates River and on the Turkish-Syrian border, c. 25 km south of Birecik). Neo-Hittite sculpture, about 135 cm in height, traditional style, dated 950-850 BC (hittitemonuments.com) or 750-700 BC (Ekrem Akurgal).
