view map

Village rug from the Isparta region, pile knotted carpet, wool on wool. Of the so-called ‘yolluk’-type (which means that the length is about three times the width), used as floor covering; the dimensions are adapted to the oblong form of the rooms in most village houses.
The central panel is filled with vertically arranged hooks; the hook motif was used as an amulet, for protection.

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.
