Ankara 10062012_0712.jpg

Small soapstone mould with the representation of a ‘Anatolian holy family’: a fertility goddess (on the left), a Storm god with his conical hat, and two children. Excavated in the ‘Karum’ (Assyrian merchant-colony) of Kaneş/Kültepe. Dated 18th century BC (Period of the Anatolian City-states). Dimensions: 62 x 50 mm.

The mould was used to cast lead plaques or to produce copies of it in clay.

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.
