Text on a notice: One of the hallmarks of the Karaz culture is the hearth, which was the focal point of the house. Always U-shaped hearts were generally portable and anthropomorphic in style. It is not surprising that hearths played such an prominent role in the lives of the ancients of eastern Anatolia in view of the severe winters this region experiences. Indeed it is likely that domestic worship during the Early Bronze Age was centered around the hearth.
