The caligraphy in the inscription - which the Strolling through Istanbul Guide mentions is intricate and of the highest quality - is probably by Ali Sofi, a man who also made the caligraphy over the Imperial Gate at Topkapı palace.

This is a digital enlargement of the previous one, I distorted the image slightly in cropping.

This ‘kitabe’ (building inscription) above the entrance to the Murat Paşa Mosque is an early example of Classical Ottoman style (dated 876 H = 1471 AD). It is the text of a prayer (in Arabic), adorned with flower motifs.
