This has always been one of my favorite things to photograph for the paper. The energy at a high school dance - whether it's prom or homecoming - is incredible and you can't help but pick up some of that for yourself. The local high school has the kids walk up a red carpet to come in, announcing their names to the group - sometimes several hundred - of people lining the walkway. They try to look nonchalant or sophisticated, but the grins break out and by the time they're actually inside, girls' shoes are coming off, guys' jackets are discarded and from then on it's all about the party.
