I started this Do YOU Remember gallery on February 6, 2008. Some of the images in this gallery were sent in e-mails remembering the good old days, individuals have contributed other images and others were found on the internet. I received most of the car photos in an e-mail that went around in April 2009 and I just found out that a lot of the photos are also on a great website at http://www.billsretroworld.com/cars.htm . Check them out - he has a lot more car photos on that site.

I received this in an e-mail today from Joe Pries, a long-time buddy who is considerable younger than me and I immediately thought of posting it here: Black and White (Under age 45? You won't understand.) You could hardly see for all the snow, Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go. 'Good Night, David . Good Night, Chet.' My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning. My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli. Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then. The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system. We all took gym, not PE ... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now. Flunking gym was not an option ... even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym? Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention. We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything. I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself. I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations. Oh yeah... And where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed! We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked. Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $99 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat. We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either; because if we did we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home. I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a jerk. It was a neighborhood run amuck. To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that? We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes. We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive? Love to all of us who shared this era! And to all who did not, I'm sorry for what you missed. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Pass this to someone and remember that life's most simple pleasures are very often the very best.

Guest, I'm glad you enjoyed the images and there's a huge backlog yet to add. Thank you for your memories. I'm a year older than you so we undoubtedly have many of the same memories. I remember going down to a nearby shopping center to a RCA TV store and they had their first color TV in the big window and there was a crowd of people out on the patio walkway watching it. One of my neighbors happened to come by and made the comment "That's not real color!" as he walked by, which didn't make sense to me because it looked real. It's amazing how far we have come when it comes to televisions. Not necessarily the content of the shows but the resolution, size of the screens, thinness of the screens, color quality, LED backlit, etc. Don .

Me, Bob,Wes, would put togather 2 or 3 $ put it into Bobs Aunts 57 ford convertable{ after his aunt went to work} and cruzzze the beach at south beach at the parking garage. Hit lums for a big roast beef, & a pitcher if we could get away with it. We lived around Twin Lakes, and sunday morning, would go play "HOME RUN DURBY" @ the Twin Lakes School field. That's where i 1st realized i'de just inhaled. Only took me 50 yr.s to quit.

I got caught by a cop climbing up a royal palm to see over the fence at the nudist colony in hialeah. I had borrowed a pair of telephone climbers and had gotten to the top to see over the twenty foot fence of green painted tin when the squad car rolled up and my buddy took off in his car. I was sure I'd be going to jail as I climbed down to the waiting cuffs, but the cop simply said..."What, did you see over there kid, I always wondered what they are up to. I sheepisly told him..."Nothing but a janitor or sumpin and he had all his clothes on!" the cop just laughed and took off. Dr. C. E. Times were different and it is fun to look back. But life expectancy was only about sixty years. Scarlet fever and polio were life threating. Young girls were sent sent to "visit their aunt in Nebraska" or worse a coat hanger. Change is not always progress but with all our problems, we are still better of in many ways. Let us work on solving todays problems and still remember THE GOOD OLD DAYS.

This jogged my memory of collecting old papers to sell to the neighborhood junkman for enough coins to get in the movies on a Saturday and buy popcorn. Then open the side door to let a few friends sneek in and hide under the seat till the usher went by with the flashlight. Yeah, I was a rotten kid Thanks for the memories.

While the truck driver of a large open bed semi-truck hauling a load of watermelons, was at a restaurant across the street having dinner, me and my buddies would help ourselves to as many watermelons as we could stash under the trees along the railroad tracks.

We used to walk to the "Standard" (not Chevron), gas station and while the station attendant was busy, we'd open the lid to the Coke machine where the Cokes were with the bottle cap facing up. We'd pop the lid off a Coca Cola and drinking it with a straw.

We the waxed bottles, we use to poor the fluid out (it was horrible tasting). Then take the wax, rub it on a comic book frame, turn that upside down on a piece of paper and rub the back with a penny. The image would show up on the piece of paper. It was cool.

I do remember drive in movie theaters, but not the speakers. Never needed speakers. I can't recall any of the movies at the Drive in theaters, but I can remember every date I ever had at one....;) My 56 Chevy was the best..... burned oil with the best of them and no PCA to whine about it. Used to bring our .22 rifles to school because we were going squirrel hunting afterwards. None of the teachers ever had a problem with us leaving our guns at the coat rack (but cased.)

I remember those old radio shows, every bit as exciting as T.V. We'd hurry to get our chores done then let our imagination take over as we shivered to "The Shadow", outsmarted the bad guys with"The Lone Ranger" and laughed at "Our Miss Brooks", and others. Thank you. I just went back in time with these and it was great. It was a time when we didn't have to worry about you daughter getting pregnant or your son doing drugs. You just wondered if you could get enough of your friends together after school to play a game of baseball.
