1960 or 1961 - Harry Steele's Cabriolets Road Club in Hialeah

East Hialeah, Florida

Left to right: Harry Steele, Dean Powley, Tutt Clark, Mr. Rogers, George "Weasel" Price, Willie Scrivens, Ron Laufer, David Price and Jerry Tyson by the dragster. Thanks "Weasel" and Jerry for the names.

Thank you to Thomas De Lello for contributing this image that Harry Steele gave him. This was the Cabriolets club house in Hialeah. Harry is standing by the 1958 Pontiac (1st from left) and Jerry Tyson with the Dragmaster.

Harry and Jerry are the co-inventors of the first prototype Christmas tree device and that is the building where they created it. They sold it to Chrondak. Jerry is in Tampa, Harry is here in Miami, and George "Weasel" is in Inverness, Florida.

Memories
Geeze --That's me with the dragster . Want to add -Mr Rogers (old man) -Willie Scrivens (our only black member) --I was president at inception and remained for approx 10 years -Worked as part time field engineer for Chrondek from 1964 till 1974--installed the Dual timers, starting line, the trap area ,and eventually the scoreboards for all major NHRA events-The Cabriolets operated the timers for NHRA-we started with 8 events with the Nationals being in Detroit -Afterwords it was moved to Indy -More and more events were added each year and when I departed the club there were 10--I Remember the first Winternationals, Springnationals , Summernationals, Nationals, and World points finals -
I reported to Jack Hart (event director). Sometimes I found myself behind Buster Couch (Starting line ), Bernie Partridge (announcer ) and absolute total thrill of being between some of the most powerful and beautifully designed machines ever created. In those early days I was the luckiest man alive. In 1974 I met with Jack and Wally (Parks) in the DA tower, said my goodbyes, and departed never to return-- I opened a business in 1975 and moved on-with my life. I miss all my Buds in the Cabriolets and will forever remember them. These were the early days, we were all young and full of vigor ,now its only memories.
By the way I have this picture AND one more of the entire club in Detroit. I will send it out to those who request to see it --Included is Wally and Barbara Parks -O.V. Riley (president of Chrondek) and the original startup members--and our official original truck
Buy the way--I designed the first "Call up" system in the staging lanes, first sound system in Pomona, first 4 tenth -second "modified" tree ever used. I also installed the first ever scoreboards (at Indy) .
None of these things would have never come to pass without the "Cabriolet Road club."
I owe my startup to these guys and their early love and devotion to the sport
Jerry Tyson
