1988 - Concourse E and the E-Satellite at Miami International Airport

Miami International Airport, Florida

Note the British Airways Concorde parked on gate E-9. The Concorde served MIA from 1984 until 1990 on a Heathrow-Dulles-Miami routing with the aircraft staying overnight on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It then flew Miami-Dulles-Heathrow on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

You should have heard that sucker from 50 feet off the side of the runway as it roared past on takeoff. I had visitors out there with me taking photos who dropped their cameras to plug their ears with their fingers because the noise level was borderline painful.

I remember laying on the sand on Miami Beach and hearing and seeing the Concord go over on its way to London. What a roar! I could still hear it a long time after it was well out of sight. Too bad I'll never get a chance to fly on it.
