I spent a lot of time as a toddler looking at this Zayre Auto Service scene. There was a bus stop on the corner of 49th Street, and me and Mom would sit in the hot sun waiting for the bus to come.

I checked Stormpulse.com and it looks like it was Hurricane Inez in September 1966. I was stationed in Baltimore with the USCG at the time so I never saw it hit Miami. There's more information at:

I worked in Zayre in 1968-1969 before going into the Air Force.

Zayres!!! I almost drowned in the lake behind this store when I was about 13 years old, Beverly! It was essentially a rock pit and had a terrible ledge that just dropped off into very deep water and that's the reason I nearly drown. Saved by Maurice Lemus who gave me a push toward the ledge so I could get my footing.

Remember Richards Dept Store?

I miss this place...it was the best place to shop. of course walking distance from home and "Lake Bambi" right behind it was fun to fish.
