By May 2016, the building was demolished.

I worked on the mechanical systems when it was The Beach House. It was owned by twins, Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Rhew (?) and run by Robin, Mrs. Rices daughter. The Rices also lived at the Marina very close there, as did Curt Gowdy, when he came to the key/Miami to fish. There was a fountain/diner in the drug store a little further down Crandon Blvd, was it Vernons Rexall? There were a lot of Eastern Air Line pilots living on the key at that time.

This is in fact the La Carreta now. The chimney is gone but the rest of the building still remains in it's original form, at least the portion you can see in this window. The take out window now is JUST to the left of where the chimney is shown here. We still ride motorcycles there about every other week. I remember also the Jamaica Inn, which, I believe was adjacent to this joint on the south, or left in the photo as this photo is looking west(erly).

Drew, if I remember correctly, John Andrew "Drew", You were too busy hanging out at Danker's motel in West Miami. Which brings up the fact that you now own the old Danker home.... TRUE??????

My family lived in Miami from 67 - 73, and we went to Crandon every Monday after school. It was great fun - and many of my local friends went, as well. So, no, it wasn't a tourist trap. In the 80s, I went back to UM, and visited Crandon every Sat. - NOT a bunch of tourists. I never saw this place, but I imagine the food was good.

Is this where "La Carreta Restaurant " is now?

I cannot remember this place. Those who lived on the "Key" avoided Crandon as it was a hell hole with tourists.

I turned left at Harbor Drive, later a stop light, and never drove on Crandon, just back streets.

I am told that this place existed 12 years before I left Key Biscayne and yet I cannot remember it at all.
